Hello, I’m Vicky. I am a self-employed content publisher who loves to cook from scratch.
Growing up in a big family on a farm in Africa my mother had to cook everything from the raw ingredients as the shops were too far away. My two sisters and I learnt initially from Mom but then developed our ways of doing things. One sister (who is sadly no longer with us) developed a love for adding lots of herbs and spices – her curries were really hot too!. My youngest sister is passionate about healthy cooking with less sugar, does not use garlic and hates coriander leaves.
My twin brothers did not do much in the way of cooking when we were growing up except if we had a braai – barbecue here in the UK. However, when they did a spell of temporary tenting work after leaving school, one brother was able to draw on my mother’s influence and cook a basic menu for those sharing the house with them.
He had a meal plan set for every day of the week. Something like sausage and mash on Mondays, chicken on Tuesdays, spaghetti bolognese on Wednesdays and so on. He kept them adequately fed for their physical work and they knew what was coming.
I hope this website’s content will help others prepare home-cooked meals from scratch more easily and quickly using kitchen gadgets and equipment. Why do I think this is a good thing to do? Well, my answer to that would be that it is
- healthier as you can control what goes into them
- use fewer preservatives than shop-bought ready meals – ie not too much sugar and salt,
- control what oils, butter and cream go into them – choosing lower calorie alternatives ie sprays and yoghurts instead of high-fat ingredients
- can cook the right amount not overfill your plate
- cook with nutritional ingredients such as fresh/frozen fruit and vegetables
- Spend quality time with family cooking together and for them
- teach your children skills that will help them when they leave home
- You can make savings which add up with each meal you make yourself
I sincerely hope that as I add more content to this website you’ll find it helpful and get you cooking at home rather than adding those ready meals to your trolley in the supermarket.
In our modern world today it’s so much easier to prepare home-cooked meals when you take advantage of the kitchen gadgets that are available to use.
